What is it?
Many of us experience worry or depression
at some stage of life and need to come to terms with pain,
disappointment
and confusion.
Often this can be resolved without outside help. Sometimes,
however, the difficulties persis causing unhappiness
at home, work or in
our relationships with others. This may be because current issues are stirring
up feelings from
the past of which we are not consciously aware.
Counselling
and Psychotherapy can help us to understand and make sense of hidden aspects of
ourselves.
What will happen at a consultation?
In
a reliable and confidential setting, you will be encouraged to use the sessions
for reflection on whatever is on
your mind, such as feelings, thoughts, memories,
dreams. By listening, reflecting and questioning, the therapist
tries to
help you make sense of your experiences.
As the relationship between you
and the therapist developsyou may discover new insights and more appropriate
ways of being.
The aim is to help people to understand and accept themselves
and to find their own resolution to the conflicts and difficulties they experience.
What
are the side effects?
It is well known that things sometimes
feel worse before they get better so don't assume it means failure
if you
hit a bad patch. It is a matter of hanging on in there and learning to trust the
process.
Do not give up too easily.
