Physiotherapy is an orthodox treatment by a chartered physiotherapist
for a wide
range of conditions, including:
Spinal problems
– including prolapsed discs, degeneration,
sciatica, lumbago, pain
and stiffness
Joint problems – arthritis, frozen
shoulder and swollen joints
Muscle and ligament injuries
– tennis elbow, golfers elbow, tendonitis and RSI
Sports injuries
– ankle injuries, knee problems, muscle imbalance, strains and sprains
Neurological
conditions – strokes, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s
disease
Chest conditions – asthma and chronic obstructive
pulmonary disorders
The chartered physiotherapist uses a wide range
of skills including manipulation,
mobilisation, massage and exercises as
well as electrotherapy techniques.
Physiotherapists will not only treat
the problem, but also provide advice on how to
prevent a recurrence.
The
physiotherapist will initially make a full assessment in order to
decide
with the patient the best course of treatment for them.
Many musculoskeletal
problems are work related – caused or made
worse by work. Where required,
the treatment session will include
ergonomic advice to help patients manage
their condition at
work - avoiding unnecessary sickness absence.
